At least 46 people have been killed in a series of explosions at a convention center in Kerala, India.

The first explosion occurred at 9:40 am local time on Sunday. A total of three explosions took place there.

According to Indian media NDTV, a 48-year-old man admitted responsibility for the explosion and surrendered a few hours after the incident in Kalamassery area of the state.

It is known that Sunday was the last day of a three-day religious event at the convention center. About two thousand people were present there at that time. Witnesses said the first blast occurred during prayers.

Police say one person died in the blast. Besides, 45 injured people are undergoing treatment in different hospitals of the district. 18 of them are in ICU. The condition of five people injured in the explosion is critical.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan called the incident “unfortunate”. He said, the situation is being looked at seriously.
