The Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Housing and Diversity and Inclusion, the Honourable Steve Clark, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing for Ontario, and John Wise, Reeve of Stone Mills Township, all made the announcement on May 5th that they would each contribute nearly $1 million to the construction of four housing units in Tamworth.

Prince Edward-Lennox and Addington Housing Corporation owns and manages this Tamworth project at 11 and 21 Celtic Street. It will provide seniors with a four-unit building at 80% of the Average Market Rent, of which 50% will be accessible.

Through the Ontario Priorities Housing Initiative (OPHI) and the Canada – Ontario Community Housing Initiative (COCHI), the Canadian Government and the Province of Ontario have invested approximately $305,000 in this project. Under the National Housing Strategy, OPHI and COCHI are both initiatives of the Canada-Ontario Bilateral Agreement.

The four homes have been built, and the project will welcome residents in March 2023.
