Canada’s health department, Health Canada, has urged consumers to return more than 200,000 George brand slippers (a type of clothing) made in Bangladesh, citing health risks. Recently, a notification in this regard has been published on the official website.
However, even though many such clothes have been sold in Canada since November last year, no accidents or injuries have been reported.
According to the website of Canada’s health department, these George brand clothes are made in Gazipur’s Unique Designers factory. The clothes were sold by multinational retailer Walmart. Customers can return the clothing at any Walmart branch. For this reason, the cost of clothing will be fully refunded to them.
Repeated washing can eventually break the top of the slippers’ zippers and pinch the foot and neck grip, Health Canada said. As a result, the wearer may suffocate. This instruction is given with reference to four specific sizes of slipper. Their pictures are also published for the ease of understanding of the buyers.
According to the data of Walmart Canada, from November of last year to June of this year, they sold 216,595 pieces of such clothing across the country. As of September 21, Health Canada has not received any reports of accidents or injuries related to the clothing. However, the health department of the country thinks it is important to be careful in advance for those who have bought such clothes.
