Former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy passed away. The veteran Congress leader passed away in Bengaluru on Tuesday morning after a prolonged illness. He was suffering from cancer for a long time. He was undergoing cancer treatment in Bangalore.
After Omen Chandy’s death, her son wrote on social media, “Father is dead.” He was 79 years old at the time of his death.
Oommen Chandy was the Chief Minister of Kerala twice from 2004 to 2006 and from 2011 to 2016. At the age of just 27, he began his career as a legislator by winning the 1970 assembly elections.
Since then he has won 11 consecutive assembly elections. He had the honor of being the longest serving member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly representing his constituency.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said Omen Chandy was a leader of the people. He also said, ‘My humble respect to the former Chief Minister of Kerala and a staunch Congress leader who stood as a leader of the people.
His dedication and service to the people has played an important role in the development of Kerala in the national politics of the country. My condolences to his family.’
