West Bengal government has started activities to stop ragging in educational institutions. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has already launched a 24-hour helpline.
From now on, if a student is a victim of ragging in any university in West Bengal, he can call 18003455678 to complain. His name will be withheld if necessary, West Bengal Police said. This service has been launched from Tuesday (August 22).
Durga Puja Committees of West Bengal had a meeting on Tuesday. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched this helpline number from that meeting.
It is to be noted that due to ragging, the first year student Sapnadeep Kundur died from the third floor of the Jadavpur University hostel in Kolkata at around 11:30 pm on August 9.
Allegations of ragging came to light after this unusual death. Not only in the case of Swapnadwip Kundu, but also with most of the new students of Jadavpur University, there have been repeated complaints of ragging.
