Mayor Tory announces 70 per cent of eligible Toronto residents are fully vaccinated, promotes this weekend’s Home Stretch Vaccine Push in Taylor-Massey

Today, ahead of this weekend’s Home Stretch Vaccine Push taking place in the Taylor-Massey neighbourhood, Mayor John Tory, alongside Councillor Brad Bradford, visited Shoppers World Danforth, the site of one of nine hyper-local pop-up clinics that will be administering first and second dose vaccinations to anyone age 12 and up on Saturday, July 31 and Sunday, August 1.

Mayor Tory announced today that 70 per cent of all eligible Toronto residents – that’s everyone 12 and older in our city – are now fully vaccinated.

Following the vaccine clinic visit, which was led by Denny Petkovski, Director of Corporate Projects and Volunteer Services at Michael Garron Hospital, and Nadjib Alamyar, Manager of Newcomer Wellness at WoodGreen Community Services, the Mayor urged residents to get vaccinated and spoke about the importance of neighbourhood-focused vaccination initiatives in removing remaining barriers to vaccine access and increasing vaccination rates across the city.

The Taylor-Massey neighbourhood has some of the lowest vaccinations rates in the city. This weekend’s Home Stretch Vaccine Push, led by the City and Michael Garron Hospital, alongside East Toronto Health Partners and numerous local community agencies, will focus efforts to remove all remaining barriers to vaccine access in the neighbourhood. Pop-up clinic locations include John’s No Frills, Massey Square, Secord Elementary School, Shoppers World Danforth and Victoria Supermarket.

The clinics, which will be open to walk-ins to anyone with an “M” postal code, will administer mostly Pfizer with some supply of Moderna to those who request it. All clinics will offer free grocery or food gift cards for first doses and first dose referrals, while Shoppers World Danforth will also feature on-site music, free ice cream and coffee, as well as other exciting give-aways.

Residents are encouraged to drop by any of the clinics convenient to them or schedule an appointment in advance through the Michael Garron Hospital website . Opens in new window
