Motorcycle operator crashes vehicle in Burin and is arrested for impaired driving

A 38-year-old man is facing charges after he crashed his motorcycle on June 11, 2022.

Shortly before 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, during heavy rain, Burin Peninsula RCMP were on patrol in Burin and observed a motorcycle on Eagle Road. The officer turned around to attempt a traffic stop and the motorcycle was gone. The motorcycle was located moments later laying on its side on the roadway at the intersection of Winterland Road and Route 220. Debris was scattered across the road.

The operator, who was driving while suspended, showed signs of alcohol impairment and failed a roadside breath test. He was taken to the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre for treatment of minor injuries sustained after he crashed his motorcycle. He was treated and released from the hospital and was transported to the detachment where he provided breath samples that were above the legal limit.

The man was released from custody and is set to attend court at a later date to answer to charges of impaired driving. The motorcycle, which was unregistered and uninsured, was seized and impounded and the man’s driver’s licence was further suspended. He was ticketed for the traffic offences.
