A vehicle on 12th Street NW in Portage la Prairie was stopped by Portage la Prairie RCMP officers on April 9, 2023, around 3:20 a.m.

The vehicle’s four occupants were approached by officers, who spoke with the 33-year-old female driver and requested identification.

While speaking with the other passengers, officers noticed that the vehicle contained open liquor.

The three other people in the vehicle were asked to get out, and when the back door opened, the officers saw more alcohol and a big knife.

A second search of the vehicle turned up illegal pills, loaded syringes, approximately $7500 in cash, and other drug-related items. The four people inside were arrested.

The two people in the backseat, a 27-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man, were taken into police custody and later released for a July 11, 2023, court date in Portage la Prairie, where they will be charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking x2, Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, and Possession of Proceeds of Crime.

The driver, who was 33 years old, and the front passenger, who was 35 years old, were both released without charge.
