Nearly 8,000 eligible residents ages six months to under five years have received their first COVID-19 vaccine

As of Monday, August 15, nearly 8,000 of Toronto’s youngest residents have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

At this early stage in the vaccination effort for this age group, Toronto Public Health (TPH) accounts for most of the administered COVID-19 vaccine to children ages six months to under five years. TPH is one of many partners in the vaccination campaign who will be administering children’s vaccines across Toronto as shipments of doses from the Province of Ontario are received.

This equity-focused, COVID-19 vaccination effort provides additional locations throughout the city, including select Toronto hospitals, Ontario Health Teams, primary care providers, pediatricians, pharmacies, community organizations and Indigenous-led vaccination clinics. Residents are asked to contact these providers to secure an appointment. As the campaign progresses, additional vaccine clinic locations will be added. Details about clinic locations and hours are available on the City of Toronto’s COVID-19: Vaccines for 6 Months to Under 5 Years Old webpage, under the Vaccination Clinic tab.

Appointments for children ages six months to under five years old are available at the City’s vaccination clinics (Metro Hall, Crossroads Plaza, Cloverdale Mall, Mitchell Field Community Centre, Thorncliffe Park Community Hub and 1940 Eglinton Ave.). Appointments may be booked through the provincial booking system Opens in new window. A health card is not needed to get a vaccine at a City-run clinic.

The City’s COVID-19 Dashboard of vaccine administration information now includes the age group six months to under five years. As a result, first dose data from this age group has been incorporated into the counts of first doses and overall dose numbers administered. TPH has also incorporated the number of children under five years eligible for vaccination into the total number of eligible Toronto residents.

Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine for children ages six months to under five years was approved by Health Canada on July 14. The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) recommends that this vaccine may be offered to children of that age group PDF.

In total, Team Toronto has administered more than 7.3 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine, since the start of the vaccination campaign. All COVID-19 vaccine data is available on TPH’s Vaccine Dashboard.
