Organized by Auxiliary officers, the toy drive has supported thousands of children, youth and their families over the years.

Staff Sergeant Gerry Heaney said the response this year has been outstanding.

“We have had community outreach through schools ands corporate donors that have far exceeded our expectations,” he said.

Auxiliary officer Carrie Malin started the Toy Drive in 1994 to bring smiles to the faces of children in shelters over the holidays as well as visit community centres to ensure every kid gets toys at Christmas.

“As they have done over the years, our Auxiliary members have put significant hours into this annual event, making it one of the best years we have ever had,” Heaney said.

Auxiliary officers are uniform volunteers who perform a variety of crime prevention and community initiatives.

Neighbourhood Community Officers along with 41, 42 and 43 Division members assisted in identifying families in need as well as with the packing and distribution of the toys.
