Toronto Police Cricket Club (TPCC) won the three-day North America Police Cricket Championship cricket 20-overs championship at the Percy Cummins cricket ground in Scarborough.
Staff Superintendent Peter Moreira helped kick off the September event that draws police cricket teams to share in the love of the game at the pitch named after fallen officer Constable Percy Cummins, who was an avid cricketer himself.
TPCC defeated Peel Regional Police, which competed in the tournament for the time, by 39 runs in the final.
On the way to the championship game, TPCC beat New York Police while Peel scored a tournament-high 239 runs to win over the Canadian Police Cricket Club.
The Toronto Police Cricket Club Community team, made up of retired and community members, also competed in the tournament.
“It was a fun-filled competition played in good spirit. It’s always great to come together as a police family to play the sport we love,” said TPCC Vice-President Amir Butt. “I was also really impressed by the level of play by all the teams – we had some amazing talent out there and very close games.”
