On February 19, 2023, at approximately 1:30 am, Portage la Prairie RCMP officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle located on Lorne Avenue W in Portage la Prairie.

An officer approached the vehicle, with four occupants inside, and spoke with the male driver who stated he did not have his driver’s license with him. The driver provided a false name but was recognized by the officer.

The 16-year-old male was placed under arrest for Obstruction and upon his search, the officer located a small zip-lock bag containing what is believed to be crack cocaine.

The three other occupants were requested to exit the vehicle and upon the opening of the back door, the officers observed a large zip-lock bag on the floor containing what is believed to be a larger amount of crack cocaine.

A search of the vehicle located additional drugs, cash and drug related paraphernalia.

The two males (17,16) and one female (15) were all placed under arrest for the Possession of a Controlled Substance and taken back to the Detachment where the four youths were later released for court in Portage la Prairie where they will face charges of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of Proceeds of Crime.

If anyone has any information regarding drugs or any other criminal activity, please contact your local police agency or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477, or submit a secure tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com.
