Teenage girl pregnant after rape in Faridpur

In Faridpur, a teenage girl was reported to be pregnant after being raped. Later, the girl’s family filed a case in the concerned police station. The police arrested 5 people for their involvement in the incident.

On Wednesday (August 24) morning, Faridpur’s Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) MA Jalil confirmed this information.

The detained are Sheikh Sujan (23) of Dangi village in Faridpur Sadar Upazila, Fazal Sheikh (55), Farhad Pattandar (50), Kamal Bepari (50) and Sheikh Shamu (58) of the same area.

According to the police and local sources, Sheikh Sujan (23) of Dangi village of Emarat Member of Faridpur Sadar Upazila raped the girl. She is currently five months pregnant. A few months later, the family learns that the teenager is pregnant. Then Sujan’s family influenced and tries to induce an abortion by paying Tk 3 lakh to the pregnant girl’s family.

On August 21, public arbitration was organized through a bogus Kabinnama. Divorce after marriage is also arranged there. On receiving such information, the police conducted a raid and took some people involved in the incident to the police station. At the same time, the girl was also taken to the police station. When the girl’s mother filed a rape case, five people including Sujan were arrested.

Chairman of the North Channel Union Parishad Mostakuzzaman said that some leaders tried to resolve the incident locally. After calling for arbitration, I came to know about the rape incident. Later the local Matabbars were asked to refrain from arbitration. At the same time I ask the girl’s family to take legal recourse.

MA Jalil, officer in-Charge of Kotyali Police Station said that a case has been Filed under the Women and Child Abuse Prevention Act.

Accused Sujan and four people who tried to cover up the incident have been arrested. They have been sent to jail by court.

The OC also said that the victim girl has been admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital in Faridpur.
