The Justin Trudeau government has issued a warning to Canadian citizens living in India. A statement has been issued with several suggestions for expatriate Canadians. The Canadian government has asked its citizens to be cautious and alert at all times in India.
The killing of pro-Khalistan Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar has affected bilateral relations between India and Canada. Several incidents in the last few days have indicated the deterioration of relations between the two countries. It is claimed that there is a ‘negative view’ of Canadians on social media in India. The Trudeau government has warned Canadians living in India to remind them of that.
Canada’s statement to the citizens of that country said, “Regarding the recent events in Canada and India, there have been some ‘negative views’ towards Canada on social media. In some places, agitations and protests are also being called. Please be careful, be careful.”
It may be noted that the Government of India had also issued a similar advisory statement for Indian expatriates in Canada a few days ago. Canada has a large number of Indian citizens, especially students. They were told to be careful. India also stopped issuing visas to Canadian citizens last week.
Canadian Sikh leader Nijjar was shot dead by assailants last June. After the investigation, Prime Minister Trudeau publicly complained in the House of Commons that “Indian agents” are involved in this incident. An Indian diplomat in Canada was also expelled. After this India-Canada relations started to deteriorate. The Government of India refutes Canada’s allegations and strongly opposes it. A Canadian diplomat in India was also dismissed and ordered to leave the country by New Delhi. India’s counter-complaint is that the members of the banned Khalistani organization in this country have been granted citizenship in Canada. In this way, the Trudeau government is actually encouraging the terrorists.
