Victoria County District RCMP looking to identify owner of boat

Victoria County District RCMP is looking to identify the owner of a boat that went adrift near the Seal Island Bridge in New Harris Settlement.

On May 27, at approximately 8:20 p.m., Victoria County District RCMP responded to a report of a boat that was observed adrift in the Bras D’or Lake near the Seal Island Bridge in New Harris Settlement. RCMP officers learned that no one was observed on the boat or in the area. The Sydney Mines Volunteer Fire Department and the Joint Rescue Co-Ordination Centre (JRCC) also attended the scene to assist.

Investigators were able to bring the boat to shore and it is unclear if anyone was in the boat at the time it went adrift. The boat is a 16-foot Starcraft aluminium boat with no outboard motor attached. The Hull Identification Number is PLX13287K708. Investigators have conducted queries on the boat however it is unregistered.

Investigators are concerned about the possibility that someone may have been in the boat when it went adrift and a search of the area will continue today.
