A super specialty hospital is being built for the tigers of the Sundarbans in West Bengal, India. The hospital is being built at the tiger rehabilitation center in the stormy area of Basanti block of Sundarbans in South Twenty-four Parganas district.
According to the Indian Forest Department, the construction of the hospital is under the supervision of the West Bengal Zoo Authority. Although the hospital has been built as a tiger rehabilitation center, arrangements are being made to treat all kinds of animals here, the officials said.
Although the main building of the hospital has been completed, it is said that there is still a lot of technology to be added. This super specialty hospital will have state-of-the-art equipment for treating various animals including tigers. Separate operation theaters will be set up for animal surgeries. This state-of-the-art medical center has been named ‘Tiger Referral Super Specialty Hospital’.
According to the Indian Forest Department, the list of medical equipment required for opening the hospital has already been sent to the government. The list includes X-ray, ECG, USG machine, necessary equipment of operation theater and more advanced medical technology. The authorities are working towards opening the hospital by the end of this year.
The West Bengal state government has planned to build this super specialty hospital keeping in mind the idea to treat other wild animals besides tigers and crocodiles of Sundarbans. It has been informed that arrangements will be made to admit animals from any part of India for treatment here.
Currently there are three tigers and 11 crocodiles in this rehabilitation center in Sundarbans. Their treatment is here. There are plans to introduce a special type of ‘hydraulic table’ in this hospital for advanced treatment. The table will move easily. So that animals of any size can be placed there and given the necessary treatment. A special type of ambulance is being arranged to bring animals to the hospital for treatment from outside.
As initially agreed, the hospital will have four doctors and one surgeon. Pathologists, pharmacists and other urgent posts will also be recruited.
