Bay Roberts RCMP arrested 36-year-old Megan Jordan yesterday following reports of thefts from two businesses.

Shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Monday, police received a report of theft from Home Hardware in Bay Roberts. A man and a woman exited the store without paying for a number of items and departed in a SUV. Patrols were conducted and the vehicle was not located.

Approximately two hours later, Harbour Grace RCMP received a report of theft from Dominion in Carbonear. A woman entered the store and exited without paying for a number of items. She departed in a vehicle matching the description of the one used earlier in the day during the theft from Home Hardware.

A short time later, the described vehicle was located and stopped on Powell Drive in Carbonear. Jordan, who was located inside, was found in possession of a wig that was used as a disguise during both thefts. During her arrest, she provided police with a false identity. Officers confirmed her identity and learned of an outstanding arrest warrant by the RNC in St. John’s for other crimes. Suspected stolen property from both businesses was recovered from inside the vehicle.

Jordan attends court today and is charged with the following criminal offences:

  • Theft under $5000.00 (two counts)
  • Disguise with intent (two counts)
  • Identity fraud
  • Obstructing a police officer

In addition, her warrant was executed.

Police are looking to identify the man who was involved in the theft from Home Hardware. He is described as Caucasian, approximately 5-feet, ten-inches tall and of a stocky build. He has a tattoo on his neck and was wearing a black hooded winter jacket, blue jeans, red sneakers and a black ball cap. A picture is attached.

The investigation is continuing.
